a year of change 3.12.21
Dear Students,
Do you remember this week one year ago? If you were at F&M, you were getting ready for spring break and likely had plans that were suddenly in question. If you were in high school you were in the midst of rehearsals or practices, anticipating graduation and everything that would follow. We couldn't have known then that a very strange week would unfurl into this.
We've lost so much. Everyone has. It's hard to believe we've made it through four seasons of this, and it's still far from over.
And yet, a one year mark is an opportunity to take stock of what we've lost and what we've gained. What have been the unexpected positive aspects of this pandemic for you?
Stronger relationships?
Clarity about what you want and what you need?
Time for reflection?
A renewed appreciation for the natural world?
A sense of purpose moving forward into your future?
Every day we hear about surprising silver linings from all of you. You've grown closer to siblings, enjoyed a new craft or hobby, told someone you love the truth about how you feel, set boundaries when you needed to, gone hiking in new places, and let go of activities that just weren't feeding you.
You've been brave. You've grown.
We honor the light that still shines - in unexpected, delightful, strong and beautiful ways - in all of you. Despite, and sometimes even because of, the limits of this pandemic.
With you in the dark and the shining moments,
Lauren, Susan, Katharina, Meagan, Alexis, Kelly and Gene
