welcome your inner tiger
Happy Lunar New Year to all our students who celebrate!
This Lunar New Year ushers in the Year of the Tiger, an animal that embodies bravery, wisdom and strength. The tiger highlights our resilience in the face of challenges. People born in the Year of the Tiger are often thought to be natural leaders, courageous and energetic.
This can be a hard time to be away from home, one that requires resilience. It can be especially so if you're an international student who hasn't been able to travel back in a long time. If you've been in the US for too many months (or even years) in a row, missing out on the good food and family the holiday normally brings might feel especially bittersweet.
So if you are feeling isolated and homesick for family traditions, tap your inner tiger and courageously reach out for support and connection! Talk to the people you miss at home, talk to your friends here who understand, talk to your friends here who don't understand - and tell them just what it is that you're missing. Chances are they would love to hear.
For those of you who don't celebrate Lunar New Year, invite the tiger inside you to help you courageously reach out to your Asian and Asian American friends and classmates. Ask them what it's like to be away from home during this holiday, how they normally celebrate, who they miss. Let your bravery propel your curiosity and kindness; let your friends who can't celebrate in the ways they normally do know that you care.
What will this new year bring for you? We always welcome your thoughts and feelings, whatever they might be. If you'd like to make an appointment, it's as easy as calling the front desk at 717-544-9051.
In the meantime, we send wishes for happiness, prosperity, and COURAGE!
Warmly,
Lauren, Susan, Katharina, Meagan, Kelly, Alexis, and Gene
